Lead Machine Learning Engineer

Confluency seeks a motivated, creative, driven leader to help deliver machine learning and data-driven solutions that solve critical customer challenges.  The ideal candidate has a sharp focus on customer metrics for success, and is passionate about leveraging machine learning, AI, and analytics to improve customer outcomes. You will work closely with domain experts and water resources engineers to maximize the value of existing tools and identify novel solutions.

The ideal candidate combines a deep understanding of statistical methods and machine learning algorithms, together with an understanding of modern computing infrastructure to efficiently experiment, deploy, and scale data-driven solutions.  Your breadth of experiences enables you to move nimbly between data science, data engineering, and ML-Ops. You strive to balance the goals of simplicity, repeatability, and model accuracy – all framed by the customer’s needs.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in machine learning / data science roles
  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • Advanced knowledge of machine learning methods and statistical principles. Experience applying to anomaly detection, timeseries forecasting problems.
  • Expert data management and integration skills
  • Strong programming experience (python preferred)
  • Experience managing feature pipelines and model deployments in cloud computing environments
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles for ML (e.g. MLOps)
  • Masters degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering).
  • Strong data visualization skills
  • Proficiency with containerization and familiarity with Kubernetes
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and able to shift priorities seamlessly.
  • Team player mindset favoring outcomes over ego
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in standard software engineering methodology, e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation
  • Experience in setting up, maintaining and optimizing databases for production usage in reporting, analysis and ML applications
  • Experience applying machine learning to networked infrastructure (e.g. water networks)
  • Familiarity with Deep Learning frameworks

Location

Chicago is preferred, but other US locations will be considered.

Senior Water Resource Engineer

Confluency seeks an experienced, multi-faceted senior water resources engineer to help deliver advanced and innovative hydraulic modeling, master planning, and optimization services.  The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with collection system hydraulic modeling fundamentals and modeling software (e.g EPA-SWMM, InfoWorks ICM, Mike+) together with operational and master planning experience to help customers understand the benefits and costs of different alternatives. You are a strong communicator, and equally capable of interfacing with technical and non-technical team members. You combine practical, real-world know-how with outside-the-box thinking, leveraging proven tools and technologies in innovative ways to deliver superior technical solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience in water resources engineering
  • Strong proficiency with at least one collection system hydraulic modeling platform (EPA-SWMM, InfoWorks ICM)
  • Client-centric mentality
  • Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems
  • Ability to plan and execute modeling campaigns and master planning exercises
  • Experience with model calibration, alternatives evaluation, and model maintenance activities
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Enjoy and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented project delivery setting
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a time constrained manner
  • Project management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Optimatics Optimizer software or knowledge of optimization principles
  • Experience using HEC-RAS hydraulic modeling software
  • Water distribution system modeling experience
  • Wastewater treatment plant modeling experience
  • Understanding of asset management software and methodologies
  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills
  • Team management experience
  • Software programming experience
